SURFACES CONCERT

I want Baylor to host a concert, in which the band Surfaces will perform for the students and faculty of Baylor University. The nature of this event will be upbeat and fun, which we all need during a global pandemic.

I think Baylor University student activities should host this as opposed to a Greek organization or another club, but I think the host partners could be the Greek life organizations. The sponsor of this event would be Spotify.

The goal of this event will be to support Baylor alumni, Forrest Frank, and to raise money for the band’s charity of choice. All ticket purchases will go to said charity. This will also be a way that students can just have fun after such a stressful year.

The publics to reach with this event are everyone affiliated with Baylor University, mostly students. I think a way to do this would be to have the members of Greek life, and anyone else who wants to participate, post on social media and hand out flyers on campus for this event. There could also be shirts being sold for the event at tabling happening on campus, which would cause attraction (because everyone loves t shirts).

The anticipated size of the crowd is 5,000-7,000 people, but of course Baylor will still enforce COVID-19 protocols such as wearing masks and social distancing,

The venue would be the Ferrell Center, which is located on University Parks Drive across from the baseball fields. This venue has a maximum capacity of 10,000 people, so there is plenty of space to implement social distancing among the crowd.

The logistical needs that are not already implemented in the Ferrell Center would be a concert stage and fencing outside for lines to get in.

Staffing would be needed for ticketing and entry to the Ferrell Center, there would need to be a lights and stage crew (the band may already have this or we could use the theatre department) and then I think staffing could be used just to monitor the crowd, as there is at many concerts.

This concert would occur in January 2021 right after school starts back up in the Spring to kick off the new year. The set up for this event would take place the week before all students return to campus.

The promotional methods and items that will be used are flyers, campus tables, chalk and social media posts.
